The Silver Slippers
The Silver Slippers takes up the story of the land of Oz where L Frank Baum’s classic story ends. At the end of his story, the Silver Slippers fall off Dorothy's feet in her flight back home, over the rainbow. In The Silver Slippers, we find out that they have split into the different colors of the rainbow, scattering across Oz as they fall. If the pieces are brought back together again, the power could be used to protect or destroy the land of Oz. To find the six parts of the Silver Slippers, the Scarecrow summons a young girl named Estrellita Sanders to the Land of Oz. Together with a variety of characters she finds along the way, Estrellita ("Stelli") must find all the parts before they are found by anyone else. A delightful tale of adventure and imagination, The Silver Slippers is also about the meaning of friendship. Stelli learns that Oz is not as simple a place as she once thought as she decides who to trust.
Olana Stuart is the pen name of a prolific young author from the New Milford area. Watch for her next book, Saving Emeraldine, which is scheduled to be published later this year.
